Too Blessed to be Stressed

Monday was a rough day in my world. I felt physically exhausted and emotionally drained.

I spend Mondays at our church, as our Pastor’s administrative assistant. Normally, we are busy but this week was an entirely different monster.

From the word go, we were rushed. Projects were not going as planned. Deadlines were looming and things seemed be going backwards.

Our largest hurdle was a post card project. We are throwing a big community fun day event on September 7. We made postcards to mail out to everyone in the zipcode, letting them know about the upcoming festivities. They were supposed to be mailed on Monday. When I went to drop them off at the post office, we found out that a required insignia for our non-profit wasn’t on the post cards.

I’ll be honest: I felt pretty panicky. I returned to the church, 1200 postcards in hand and started making phone calls. With each phone call, I became more discouraged. Through a previous miscommunication about mass mailings, we were now in the middle of a m.e.s.s. A big one.

Mid-afternoon, I finally connected with someone at the main post office branch who was in charge of business and non-profit mailing. She was able to provide the answers I needed for how to correctly complete our mass mailing. The remaining problem was that we now had to find a printer who could add verbiage to our already existing post cards ASAP so we could mail them out.

I Googled and called several local print shops. They all said they would call me back by Tuesday morning at the latest with a price quote. There wasn’t anything else I could until I heard back from them.

Monday night, after working, I headed to my favorite nail salon for my monthly pedicure. I was exhausted. So drained. I felt like I couldn’t even hold my head up. It was a horrible feeling! As I sat in the pedicure chair, I plugged in some worship music on my iTunes {I was listening to this} and started reading my Bible. The first verse I landed on was this:

Isaiah 40:30,31 Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

I started crying. Right there in the pedicure chair. I was too tired to even care. It was just the verse I needed. It was such an excellent reminder that since I wait on the Lord, I don’t need to be weary.
My Type A, OCD personality can do things well — but not as good as the Lord can work them out. It was time to stop stressing and start trusting Him that I am blessed and I don’t need to worry about these details! I turned over the post card situation to Him and enjoyed the rest of my pedicure.

On Tuesday morning, I stopped at the post office to pick up our mail. The clerk asked if I had solved the post card dilemma yet. I explained to her that we were now waiting for a printer to call us back with a quote. She asked, “have you called Jamie at Statewide?” I hadn’t, so she called Jamie while I waited. Jamie said all systems were go!

I headed back to the church, rejoicing and called Jamie myself to confirm details and arrange the post card drop off. Her printing shop is only a few minutes down the road from our church, they were able to print immediately, and for a better price than we hoped for! We dropped off the postcards, and took a DEEP sign of relief!

Wednesday afternoon, Pastor texted me: “All the postcards were delivered today — to every single resident!”

I can’t describe the joyous reminder this was that the Lord had something as simple as post cards worked out. He truly brings about incredible plans for those that love Him!

More verses about not being stressed:

Isaiah 40:30,31 Even youths shall faint and be weary, and young men shall fall exhausted; but they who wait for the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles; they shall run and not be weary; they shall walk and not faint.

Malachi 4:2 But for you who fear my name, the sun of righteousness shall rise with healing in its wings. You shall go out leaping like calves from the stall.

Romans 8:6 For to set the mind on the flesh is death, but to set the mind on the Spirit is life and peace.

Romans 16:20 The God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.

Philippians 4:6,7 do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

1 Peter 5:6,7 Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

Psalms 37:5 Commit your way to the LORD; trust in him, and he will act.

Psalms 55:22 Cast your burden on the LORD, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.

Psalms 103:1-5 Bless the LORD, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless his holy name! Bless the LORD, O my soul, and forget not all his benefits, who forgives all your iniquity, who heals all your diseases, who redeems your life from the pit, who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy, who satisfies you with good so that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s.

Proverbs 16:3 Commit your work to the LORD, and your plans will be established.

Jeremiah 17:7,8 “Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose trust is the LORD. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.”

Romans 12:2 Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect.

James 1:2-4 Count it all joy, my brothers, when you meet trials of various kinds, for you know that the testing of your faith produces steadfastness. And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.

Matthew 11:28-30 Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”
